How to Purchase Disposable Face Masks in Korea (Foreigners Included)

The Korean government has announced the “Measures to Stabilize the Supply and Demand of Masks”. The government has banned the export of disposable face masks in principle and has decided to manage 100% of the entire process of mask production and distribution.

From Friday, March 6, 2020, you can purchase 3 copies of the public face mask at the pharmacies and 1 copy of the public face mask at the post office and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart. The price of one public face mask is 1,500 won in all three places.

The government has made pharmacies sell 3 copies of the public face mask per person, per week. People can buy 3 copies of the public face mask by day of the week according to the year of birth.

Monday
People whose year of birth ends 1 or 6 can purchase face masks at pharmacies.
Tuesday
People whose year of birth ends 2 or 7 can purchase face masks at pharmacies.
Wednesday
People whose year of birth ends 3 or 8 can purchase face masks at pharmacies.
Thursday
People whose year of birth ends 4 or 9 can purchase face masks at pharmacies.
Friday
People whose year of birth ends 5 or 0 can purchase face masks at pharmacies.
Weekends
People who couldn't purchase during the week can purchase face masks at pharmacies.

To prevent duplicate purchase, pharmacies check the ID and purchase history through the duplicate purchase confirmation system.

In principle, you must visit the pharmacy and present your official identification card, such as a registration card, a diving license, or a passport, to purchase the public face masks.

Foreigners must present their own health insurance card and alien registration card together.

In case of minors or elderly people over 80, their legal representative can purchase the public face masks instead of them. Their official identification card and a copy of resident registration that can prove that the proxy purchaser lives together must be presented before purchasing the public face mask.

The pharmacy's mask inventory can be known through the "Mask Alimi" website or the "Mask Scanner" application, and the pharmacies opening on holidays can be found on the pharmacy website (www.pharm114.co.kr).
